Síndrome de Burnout, variables sociodemográficas y laborales en médicos especialistas del hospital Valentín Gómez Farias, México.

Introduction: Burnout syndrome is considered as a result to chronic labor stress. Some variables of sociodemographic and/or work type can take part and influence in the appearance of such syndrome. The objective was to analyze the relationship between sociodemographic and labor factors with the Burnout Syndrome in medical specialists at the Hospital Valentin Gomez Farias, Mexico. Methodology: The study was descriptive and cross-sectional. The questionnaire of sociodemographic and occupational data and the scale of Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HS) were used. The statistical analysis were descriptive (means and percentages) and inferential (partnerships between the variables under study). Results: Of the 119 doctors, 64.7% were male and 35.3% female, with an average age of 34 years. The prevalence of Burnout Syndrome was 51.3%, for the emotional exhaustion dimension of 31.1%, for the low realization of 35.3% and 18.5% in depersonalization. There were found associations between being younger than the average with emotional exhaustion, less working time, and work in a mixed turn with depersonalization, and as protective variables are part of the emergency department and consultations clinics towards depersonalization. Conclusion: It is likely that physicians suffering from Burnout Syndrome would not be in good health conditions to work. So, we consider it urgent to identify the problems causing such pain. In this way, it will be possible to propose both prevention and treatment.Introducción: El Síndrome de Burnout es considerado una respuesta al estrés crónico laboral. Algunas variables de tipo sociodemográficas y/o laborales pueden intervenir e influir en la aparición de dicho síndrome. El objetivo fue el de analizar la relación entre los factores sociodemográficos y laborales con el Síndrome de Burnout en los médicos especialistas del Hospital Valentín Gómez Farias, México. Metodología: el estudio fue descriptivo y transversal. Se aplicó tanto el cuestionario de datos sociodemográficos y laborales como la Escala de Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HS). Los análisis estadísticos fueron descriptivos (medias y porcentajes) e inferenciales (asociaciones entre las variables de estudio). Resultados: de los 119 médicos, 64.7% eran hombres y 35.3% mujeres, con un promedio de edad de 34 años. La prevalencia para el Síndrome de Burnout fue del 51.3%, para la dimensión agotamiento emocional de 31.1%, para la de baja realización personal del 35.3% y en despersonalización el 18.5%. Se encontraron asociaciones entre tener menor edad que la del promedio con agotamiento emocional, menos tiempo de labor y trabajar en un turno mixto con despersonalización y como variables protectoras el pertenecer al servicio de urgencias y clínicas hacia la dimensión despersonalización. Conclusión: es probable que los médicos con síndrome de Burnout no se encuentren en condiciones de salud favorables para laborar, por lo que consideramos urgente identificar los problemas que originan tal evento, para con ello proponer tanto medidas de prevención como de tratamiento
