Challenges to identity in the context of globalization: multidisciplinary and multicultural perspectives (CHALID)

Progetto selezionato per l'anno 2009-2010, e ri-finanziato, previa positiva valutazione della Lithuanian National Agency negli anni 2010-2011 (in cui ha avuto un premio come migliore progetto della categoria) e 2011-2012. The Intensive Program CHALID addresses the multidisciplinary approach to study youth identity and challenges to it in the context of globalization. The aim of this IP is to plan and implement an innovative and sustainable multicultural learning experience, both thematically and methodologically in the field of study of identity related issues from a multidisciplinary perspective in order to provide students with an understanding of how ongoing globalization processes affect constructions of identities and psychological functioning. The Intensive Program also aims to contribute to building up the necessary human capital with an ability to deeper understand and solve practical problems given by living in multicultural societies in Europe, focusing on specific groups (youth at risk of exclusion, migrant youth, etc.). The objectives are: (1) to design and test a ’state of art’ multidisciplinary curriculum on the study of identity (sexual, gender, educational, vocational, political, community, cultural and ethnic etc.) in the context of globalization; (2) to develop course materials for teaching and learning identity phenomena from multi-disciplinary perspective for use by each of the partners; (3) to deepen and broaden professional understanding of the effectiveness of comparative interdisciplinary intercultural approaches in studying identity related issues in the context of globalization; (4) to promote mobility of students and staff across Europe and to establish links between instructors and students; (5) to contribute towards University excellence and competitiveness of the European Higher Education system. The target group is 1st cycle Bologna students enrolled in Bachelor program in Social and Behavioural sciences in their home countries. Activities: the course will combine specialized lectures (50%) and international groups of students working on assignments based on reading materials to be presented for group discussions (50%). At the end of the course and after examination, each IP student will be accredited 6ECTS, recognized by the home university and included in their final Bachelor graduation document (i.e. diploma supplement). Expected outcomes: Students will be provided an insight into identity related issues in context of globalization and a deeper understanding of sustainable practices. They will acquire a better interdisciplinary approach to solve scientific problems. The other important aspect is a possibility for students and teachers from different countries to meet and exchange ideas and in this way strengthen the contacts between universities
