Automated Game Programming is an attempt to conjure computer game-playing agents from random bits through an evolution process. Sumo Ships acts as the game testing ground for evolving the game-playing agents. We developed a framework on which to test the evolution process and performed a sequence of experiments. First this paper sets a background in game programming, Artificial Intelligence in the context of computer games, and Genetic Algorithms. Then the evolution framework developed for this project was discussed. The evaluation experiments are described, and a discussion of the results follows.
