Herpesviruses are small pathogenic agents that cause diseases in animals and humans and persist lifelong in their natural host after primary infection. At least five human herpesviruses have a very high prevalence in the human population. In order to control the viral spread and treat associated diseases, development of antiviral agents that target crucial proteins of the viral life cycle is of outmost importance. Thus, a profound knowledge of the structure and mechanism of viral effectors is critical. A static structure of a protein obtained by X-ray crystallography already gives an important understanding of its fold and function. In addition, computational biology provides methods which allow analysis of the protein dynamics and can ther...
