Table top and live action role-playing games (LARPs) were born at the same time in the United States. Inspired by war games and military strategy games, they participated in the historical evolution of the genre, through the individuation of players-characters and the extension of game space, from early dungeons to complex fictional worlds. In this contribution, I will study the changes induced by “going live”, on one hand from an historical perspective, and on the other hand, by considering how the introduction of traditional storytelling processes changed the whole game perspective. That implies a transformation in the social organization of the game but also in the way actors will take new roles as storytelling elements prevail
