<p>Numbers represent the proportion of mitotic cells in each compartment of the developing somatosensory cortex that are Pax6+. Cells were identified by Pax6 immunoreactivity in a minimum of three 200 µm radial units from each age in each species. Mitoses were identified with 4A4 immunoreactivity or by condensed chromatin in DAPI stained tissue. Numbers in parentheses indicate the number of Pax6+ mitotic cells and total mitotic cells counted in each compartment from each age in each species.
