Descartes's epistemology is placed in the context of the Pyrrhonian problematic of the notorious triad: circle, regress, or foundations. It is argued that Descartes has been radically misinterpreted. His real focus is not the problem of the external world, nor is he a foundationalist. When we place his epistemology in its proper, Pyrrhonian, context, his views emerge as much more subtle and instructive to us today (and, I suspect, tomorrow).
