My thesis is a comparison and translation analysis of two translations of the Dreigroschenroman, a novel by the renowned German author Bertolt Brecht. The first translation, by Jaroslav Zaorálek, was published in 1935 with the poems translated by Břetislav Mencák. The second translation, by Rudolf Vápeník, was published in 1973 with the poems translated by Ludvík Kundera. As of now, no other translation of the novel into Czech has been made. The empirical part of my thesis, in which the translations are analysed, is preceded by the theoretical part. In the theoretical part I present some basic facts about Bertolt Bercht's person, the Dreigroschenroman, the reception of Brecht's work in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic as well as abroad...
