This paper presents the findings of a survey of 196 hotels across Canada. It covered a range of issues including a comparison between past and current profitability, attitudes towards a range of government policies, and training issues. An analysis of results was undertaken comparing the provinces under study. The study indicates that to be successful, hoteliers need not only aggressive marketing efforts and proper training, but also governmental support. Therefore, these research findings are important to both the hoteliers who want to be successful and the government policy makers who want to make the hotel industry a successful part of the tourism industry
