Samuel M. Ralston (1857-1925) worked to commemorate the state’s 100th anniversary of admission to the Union. His family had moved to Owen County from Ohio in 1865. As governor he created the Indiana Historical Commission, established Turkey Run and McCormick’s Creek state parks, and improved roads. He also paid off the state’s debt and created a surplus.
