La Rehabilitación limitada: el caso de las intervenciones de adaptación a los criterios de habitabilidad actual de edificaciones rurales construidas con técnicas históricas, aisladas o dentro de pequeños núcleos urbanos del Baix Empordà

During the last third of the twentieth century a gradual spreading of a general protective consciousness throughout society has occurred. The important changes of the productive, economic and social fabric of society have provoked a functional obsolescence. At the same time there has been an increase in testimonial and sentimental value of this architecture. It is necessary to demand an interpretive space which has not been taken into consideration until recently. Human beings tend to classify the world around them and which they construct. Nowadays, we must go one step further and consider the rules of the game which are not written which determine the adaptation to a new society. Where does all the collection of knowledge from the past remain? The more traditional the landscape is and the more it differs from the urban surroundings the more attractive it is for tourism. Abandoned buildings are now appreciated more. We live in a period of recuperation and excitement for the rural areas. The return o nature becomes a myth but, at the same time, it signifies a change in its function. The new use of rural areas implies the disappearance of traditional activities and the acceptance of a new role which is more service oriented and directed to the tourism sector. This is when we enter into a contradiction of values regarding space and its function. The social composition of the area studied is essential in order to understand the concepts of the rehabilitation taken place in the area. The social connotations of the area determine the type of developer and the desired end product. We are facing a new occupant who desires to own a prestigious real estate value. We are not dealing with preserving the collective memory by taking care of the heritage as was once done when restoring and rehabilitating the heritage. Technical and scientific means exist for this which is separate from the heritage. So then, through which concept does the value of the heritage produce itself? It answers to the demand of entertainment of the society at leisure, giving it social status and a distinction associated with the using heritage property. The diversity of cultures is disappearing due to universal globalization and dominant pressure of only one way of lifestyle. Rehabilitation forces us not to forget the understanding of the local traditional context and to thus stop the distortions of making everything universal. Architects must be alert and flexible culturally in order to understand the surroundings they are dealing with. The need to keep budgets low often makes an immediate profit the main goal which causes many ancestral techniques which could be used to be forgotten or just not used. With time this causes the loss of the particular construction types of each area to be lost. There are two main reasons that make the rehabilitation of these types of old properties follow just the necessary norms. The first is that the client may not be aware of the cultural surroundings and the importance of keeping within the traditional style. Secondly, some architects follow only what the clients request without giving suggestions based on cultural knowledge of the area.A lo largo del último tercio del siglo XX se ha producido la propagación gradual de la conciencia protectora en toda la sociedad del patrimonio anónimo. Las transformaciones profundas del tejido productivo, económico y social han ido provocando la obsolencia funcional ya su vez han ido aumentando el valor testimonial y sentimental de esta arquitectura, testimonio de una organización productiva y familiar fundamental en la historia del país que nuestra generación ha visto escapar. Cabe reclamar un espacio interpretativo que no se ha tenido en cuenta hasta hace muy poco tiempo. Por sistema, el ser humano tiende a clasificar el mundo que te rodea y que también construye, pero ahora debemos dar un paso más y plantearnos cuáles son las reglas del juego no escritas que determinan la adaptación a la nueva sociedad. ¿Dónde queda el capital de conocimientos recogido tanto tiempo atrás? Cuanto más tradicionales son los paisajes y cuanto más se diferencian del medio urbano, más atractivos ofrecen de cara al turismo. Las edificaciones abandonadas ahora son muy valoradas, vivimos una época de recuperación y exaltación de la ruralía. El retomo a la naturaleza se convierte en un mito, pero también un cambio de funcionalidad, ya que la nueva utilización del territorio rural implica la desaparición de actividades tradicionales y la adopción de un nuevo papel relacionado con la prestación de servicios y la producción de espacios turísticos. y es cuando entramos en una contradicción de valores de espacios y funcionalidades. El encuadre social de la comarca estudiada es fundamental para poder llegar a comprender los conceptos de rehabilitación que se han llevado a cabo en la zona. Las connotaciones sociales de la comarca determinan el tipo de promotor y el producto deseado. Estamos frente a un nuevo ocupante que busca poseer un valor inmobiliario de prestigio. No se trata de conservar la memoria colectiva mediante el cuidado del patrimonio, tal como en origen se fundamentó el concepto de la restauración y rehabilitación del patrimonio, pues para esta tarea ya cuenta con medios técnicos y científicos ajenos al patrimonio. Entonces, ¿en función de que concepto se produce la valorización de este patrimonio? Responde a la demanda de distracción de la sociedad del ocio, confiriéndole, suplementariamente, el estatus social y la distinción asociadas al consumo de los bienes patrimoniales. Se está perdiendo la diversidad de culturas diferenciadas debido al universalismo globalizador y la presión hegemónica de un solo modo de hacer. La rehabilitación nos obliga a no dejar de lado la comprensión del contexto tradicional local y por ende parar las distorsiones del hacer universal. Los arquitectos deben estar culturalmente atentos y flexibles a entender el entorno donde se interviene. Pero el reduccionismo monetario del discurso económico actual se impone y rechaza todo aquello del que no sea posible obtener un beneficio inmediato lo cual conduce al olvido y desuso de técnicas ancestrales de comprobada eficacia que no se adaptan a las premisas dictadas. Esto con el tiempo conlleva la pérdida y la indefinición de las peculiaridades constructivas propias de cada zona. Existen dos razones principales que dirigen que la rehabilitación de este patrimonio solo atienda a requerimientos formales: el hecho de estar dirigidos a un público y consumidor (pues se trata de un valor de mercado) que no ha realizado el recorrido iniciático previo para poder valorar mas allá de las simples formas o materiales, deposita eI deseo de conservación de formas pretéritas bajo la mirada reductora del aspecto formal. La desafección de los arquitectos responsables de llevar a cabo estas obras. Su intervención se limita a responder a los requerimientos del consumidor. En general el colectivo de arquitectos no se siente responsables a la hora de entender la rehabilitación más allá de los requisitos formales y no consideran que un asesoramiento más completo sea necesario.Postprint (published version
