Gertrude Austin Collection 1913-1999

The collection contains a questionnaire filled out by Gertrude Austin regarding her life in Austria before World War II, emigration from Austria to the United States, and life in the United States. The collection also contains a birth certificate and residency certificate for Gertrude Austin's husband Bela Österreicher (later William Austin); school certificates for Gertrude Austin; and Austrian passports for both. Also included is family correspondence from World War II among family members in England, Vienna, Shanghai, Brno, Kielce, New York, and Amsterdam; correspondence concerning the estates of family members killed in the Holocaust; essay by Jeanne Austin about Gertrude Austin's life in Austria; and photographs of Goldstein and Frankl family members.Getrude Austin née Goldstein, formerly Gertrude Österreicher, was born on June 2, 1911, in Vienna. She emigrated from Austria to England with her husband Bela Österreicher (later William Austin) in 1939.
