Gertrude Wortzman Collection 1934-2003

This collection contains a questionnaire from Leo Baeck Institute's Austrian Heritage Collection, which Gertrude Wortzmann (née Frage) filled out with information about her pre-war life in Vienna, wartime experience, and fate of family members. Accompanying this questionnaire is a scanned sheet of family photographs, mid 1930s to circa early 1940s.digitizedGertrude Wortzman née Frage was born on June 2, 1922 in Vienna’s 2nd district, where she lived with her parents and her brother and sister. After the rise of Nazi power Gertrude Wotzman had to live in the Lenow Ghetto where she was forced to work for the German Wehrmacht. After having been interned in the Janowski Concentration Camp until May 1943, she was imprisoned until January 1944, when she escaped and went into hiding. She was liberated in June of 1944, returned to Vienna, Austria and decided to emigrate to the USA.An inventory of the collection is available in the folder.Austrian Heritage Collectio
