Edith Taussig Collection 1936-1999

The collection contains a questionnaire filled out by Edith Taussig regarding her life in Austria before and during World War II, emigration from Austria to the United States, and life in the United States. The collection also contains items documenting her life in Vienna before and during World War II, including birth and school certificates; identification cards; and documents pertaining to her work for the Fürsorgeaktion für christliche und konfessionslose Nichtarier der Ostmark and Ältestenrat der Juden in Wien during the war and US Army headquarters in Vienna from 1945 to her emigration in 1949. Also included are certificates and correspondence pertaining to the death of Edith Taussig's mother Friederike Löw née Lamberg in Bergen-Belsen, as well as correspondence pertaining to restitution.The collection also contains some documents pertaining to Frederic Taussig, including a birth certificate, identification cards, and an apprenticeship contract, and documents pertaining to his brother Robert Taussig, particularly to his death in Mauthausen.Edith Renate Taussig née Löw was born in Vienna on February 8, 1926. During the war she worked for the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien in a children's home.
