Giessen Community Collection 1836-1998

The collection contains original documents from the first half of the 19th century regarding decrees made affecting the Jewish community, found in folder 1. Folder 2 contains the programs accompanying the 1992 and 1994 award of the Hedwig-Burgheim Medaille, given in 1992 to Rabbi Henry G. Brandt, the program also includes articles commemorating the 50th anniversary of deportation. The 1994 award was given to provost Helmut Grün and the book includes documentation on rebuilding of synagogue in Giessen.Folder 3 has various documents including an article about the new synagogue in Giessen (FAZ, 8/21/95), list of people from the University of Giessen who were denied their doctorate after 1933 (compiled by Dr. Peter Chroust), reports from the committee of former Jewish citizens from Giessen and its surroundings (by Josef Stern, 1995), letter from the mayor of Giessen at the occasion of award of the 1998 Hedwig-Burgheim Medal for Guenther Bernd Ginzel.
