THE HIGH RESOLUTION INFRARED SPECTRUM OF $DBF_{2}$: THE $4^{1}_{0}$ BAND

Spectrosc. 98, 143-166 (1986).Author Institution: Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Southern Illinois University, CarbondaleA previous study on the normal species, $HBF_{2},^{1}$ indirectly estimated the position of the unseen inplane bending fundamental, $\nu_{6}$ via a small Coriolis perturbation. In an attempt to observe this fundamental directly, the deuterated analogue. $DBF_{2}$ was prepared in situ and its infrared absorption spectrum was recorded between 700 and $920 cm^{-1}$ using a high resolution Bomem DA3.002 FT-IR instrument. The strongest band in this region is the out-of-plane bending fundamental, $v_{4}$. This type-C band is heavily perturbed by a second, as yet, unidentified vibrational state. The results of the assignment and analysis of the $v_{4}$ band of DBF2 will be discussed, including the evaluation of a new set of ground state rotational constants for both $D^{11}BF_{2}$ and $D^{10}BF_{2}$. The nature of the perturbing vibration will also be discussed
