Some linguists – although not many – still think with Sapir and Whorf that thought is determined by language, others like Harris, Chomsky or Mel'cuk seem to operate on the assumption that a stable meaning can survive syntactic transformations. Psycholinguists have shown that meaning and form are stored separately in our brains, which could explain the phenomenon translation specialists call deverbalisation.
