To Combat Influenza

• Associated Press, Albany, October 3—• The state department of health has not issued regulations related to the Spanish flu, and does not intend to in the near future. Measures have been implemented to prevent the spread of the illness, though.• Quarantine would be impractical since it is impossible to control the civilian population in the same way that soldiers at quarantined camps can be controlled.• The division of communicable diseases is arranging a corps of nurses to travel to areas where care is needed. Recommendations for treating the illness have been sent to municipalities and health supervisors have received special instructions.• Between 2,500 and 3,000 cases have been reported in Oswego. Two of the state health department’s experts on communicable disease are traveling there to assist local physicians.• Reports indicate that the illness is spreading state-wide, but the number of cases at Syracuse and some other points is decreasing.Newspaper article
