City Deaths Show A Slight Increase

• City health departments received reports of 11 deaths yesterday; not known if number is actually decreasing, or physicians to busy to report all cases• Total cases now number 3,197• There were 13 deaths at the Ohio State University barracks yesterday; there were 11 the previous day• Of deaths reported yesterday, six were children and two were in one family• There have been 378 deaths from influenza and pneumonia; three have been at Ohio State University barracks and 49 at the Columbus barracks• Health officer Kahn does not believe the damp weather will adversely affect patient health; he does not believe the disease is abating in Columbus• “Either our cases are milder or the individual patients take better care of themselves”, says Kahn• In answer to questions about Halloween parties, Kahn reminds the public that violators of the policy bans are subject to arrest and fines• Acting state health commissioner Bauman received reports that there were 3,600 cases of influenza and 260 deaths yesterday throughout the state of Ohio• Bauman believes the state will be fortunate if restrictions (policy bans) are lifted within three weeks • Total new cases in the state now number 200,000 with 5,000 deaths – a number on par with other large cities• It is expected that commissioner Bauman will establish guidelines for local officials to remove restrictions; relaxation must be gradual and not precipitate a recurrence of the diseaseNewspaper article
