Plan Survey Of Influenza Cases

• Rapidly increasing spread of the influenza epidemic in four sections of the city called for an immediate survey of all cases • The survey was undertaken by volunteer workers from the Citizens’ Committee headquarters, acting on reports of many new cases in the Dayton’s Bluff section, the Como park and Lake Phalen districts, the Minnesota Transfer district, int eh vicinity of Hamline University and Riverview near the river• Establishment of a home for children temporarily parentless through the influenza at the Wilder day nursery was announced at the meeting of the Citizens’ committee yesterday• A central food kitchen will be established today at Mechanic Arts high school, from which food will be sent by automobiles to many families• St. Paul ‘closed shop’ yesterday in pursuance of the orders of the city heath department. Protests were numerous and many sought exemption, but all coming within the order were kept strictly to the letter according to the report of B.F. Simon, City Health Officer• 86 calls for medical aid were received at the Citizens’ Committee headquarters and the physicians made 78 calls• “That the disease is moving from district to district on the ‘plateau’ plan suggested by the physicians, is being proved. Instead of reaching a crest and beginning to subside, the disease will continue for several days at maximum figures and then apparently move on to some other district”• [Air Mechanics School]• 1 pneumonia death occurred at the Air Mechanics School.
