• Associated Press, Washington, September 28—• Tests at several army camps indicate that a new serum works well as a vaccine against pneumonia. The vaccine is being manufactured in quantities sufficient to treat 60,000 people daily. One shot is sufficient for the desired effect.• Congress has appropriated one-million dollars for the Public Health Service to use in fighting Spanish influenza and other communicable diseases.• Representative Gillett of Massachusetts played an integral role in granting this appropriation.• The Public Health Service is working with the medical forces in the Army and the Navy to ensure that districts suffering from influenza receive aid and medical staff.• Reports received by Acting Surgeon General Richards indicate that influenza’s progress has not yet been checked. 8,830 (?) new cases have been reported for 24 hours, as compared with 6,824 during the previous day. The total of cases in all camps was 51,217.• Pneumonia deaths have increased to 247 from 170 during the previous day. Pneumonia cases have declined, however, to 548 as compared with 717 the day before.• Camp Pike, AR, reports 1,624 new cases. Decreases have occurred at Camp Lee (454) and Camp Devens (153).
