Quarantine Order To Be Thoroughly Enforced In City

*City Health Officer Dr. W. A. King stated that all San Antonio businesses must comply with health regulations; it was reported that several pool halls remained open after the Tuesday night closing order. King instructed the Chief of Police Frederick Lancaster to close all of these places. Pool hall owners said they had not been officially notified of the closing order. “They said they were eager to comply with every rule enacted by the Board of Health that would make more effective the quarantine.”*Department store managers met Tuesday 12/10 and decided to close between 1-2pm every day to ventilate stores. Even though managers said they will enforce no crowding rule, Board of Health “will establish pickets along the pavements in front of the store entrances. These pickets will be citizens who have volunteered their services to the city, and they will charge nothing for the time they are on duty. They will establish their lines for a period of seven hours and will patrol the sidewalks at a time when the rush hours for shopping ordinarily begin until they are over.” Human pickets begin work this morning 12/11.*E. H. Kifer, General Manager of the San Antonio Public Service Company [streetcars] said it might be difficult to add streetcars in order to prevent congestion because so many employees are sick; nevertheless, he assured the Board of Health that inspectors will be stationed at the main corners to ensure that patrons comply with regulations.*County and district courts cancelled jury dockets until 1/6/19; decision made at a meeting between judges of the courts and members of the City and County Health Boards.Newspaper article
