CARACTERIZACIÓN DE LA ACTIVIDAD DE ANIDACIÓN DE TORTUGAS MARINAS EN PLAYA MORRILLO, VERAGUAS, PANAMÁ.

In order to characterize the nesting activity of sea turtles on Morrillo beach, nocturnal and diurnal monitoring was carried out from July to November 2021. The following information was recorded: number of events, number of nests, types of tracks, biometrics of the tracks, nesting species, biometric data of nesting females, position of nests in the beach profile and reference points of the beach, and the status of the nests (poached or depredated). A total of 445 events were documented, of which 300 were true events. Of these, 224 were attributed to L. olivacea, 45 to C. mydas, 10 to E. imbricata, and 21 nests could not be identified. 57 L. olivacea females were measured, with an average CCL of 65.2 cm and an CCW of 69.5 cm, and 18 C. mydas females were measured with a CCL of 74.6 cm and an CCW of 69.6 cm. Additionally, it was determined that poaching of eggs and depredation by dogs were the main causes of nest loss. This study highlighted the importance of Morrillo beach as a key site for sea turtle nesting in the Panamanian Pacific.  Con el objetivo de caracterizar la actividad de anidación de tortugas marinas en playa Morrillo, se realizaron monitoreos nocturnos y diurnos desde julio hasta noviembre de 2021. Se registró la siguiente información: número de eventos, número de nidos, tipos de rastros, biometría de los rastros, especies anidantes, datos biométricos de las hembras anidantes, posición de los nidos en el perfil de playa y en los puntos de referencia de la playa y estado de los nidos (saqueados o depredados). Se documentaron 445 eventos, 300 de ellos fueron eventos verdaderos, 224 correspondieron a L. olivacea, 45 a C. mydas, 10 a E. imbricata y 21 nidos no pudieron ser identificados. Se midieron 57 hembras de L. olivacea que promediaron un LCC de 65.2 cm y un ACC de 69.5 y 18 de C. mydas las cuales registraron un LCC de 74.6 cm y un ACC de 69.6 cm. Además, se determinó que el saqueo y la depredación por perros fueron la principal causa de la pérdida de los nidos. Este estudio permitió resaltar la importancia de playa Morrillo como un sitio clave para la anidación de tortugas marinas en el Pacífico panameño
