Inherited cardiomyopathies are a diverse group of diseases that affect the structure and function of the heart muscle. Cardiomyopathies are divided to subgroups based on the ventricular function and morphology. The main subtypes of cardiomyopathy are dilated (DCM), hypertrophic (HCM), restrictive (RCM), and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM). The genetic etiology associated with cardiomyopathies is broad. Overlap in the clinical presentation and genetic causes has been observed between different subtypes of cardiomyopathies. In major part of the patients the etiology is estimated to be genetic, and in most of the cardiomyopathies, the inheritance pattern is autosomal dominant.
