This article seeks to deepen the debate about the importance of a public policy of “civic education” or “democratic education”, something that, despite the current criticisms and fears, has always been present in the official pedagogical strategies of Brazil since becoming a republic, and that answers to the most elementary precepts of the concept of democracy. Based on this objective, the first focus is to understand what young people perceive about politics and about the role of the school in their education in matters of this nature through the review of studies about such themes.
