External Anatomy of a Commensal Copepod, Ostrincola koe―II Nauplius Stage

The development of the nauplius stage of Ostrincola koe (Copepoda, Cyclopoida), a commensal of a clam, Tapes (Amygdala) philippinarum, was studied and the external morphology of each nauplius stage was described. Nauplii needed no foods to develop and molt into the first copepodite instar. There were 5 nauplius instars. The first nauplius was about 0.16 mm in body length and the fifth nauplius was 0.18 mm. Each nauplius stage has its chief morphological features in the number of the setae in the terminal segment of the first antenna, and the number and length of anal setae.1. アサリ外套腔から採集したOstrincola koeの抱卵雌から孵化したノープリアスを,無投餌で海水中に飼育し,その変態に伴なう外部形態の変化を観察した。2. 5期の発育段階が認められ,オルトノープリアスが2期,メタノープリアスが3期である。3. 第1期ノープリアスの体長は約0.16mmであり,第5期ノープリアスは約0.18mmであって,この間の体長の増加は極めて少ない。4. 各期の形態的特徴は,主として第1触角端節の刺毛数,第2触角外肢の羽状毛の排列および内肢の未端腹角の棘の大きさ,第1小顎の有無,尾肢の数と長さおよび体色に現われる。5. 全期を通じて,体中に緑色の帯色部があり,第5期ノープリアスでは,活発な蠕動運動をする濃緑色の中腸の細胞内に,成体およびコペポディット幼生の中腸の細胞に認められるものと同様の色素粒が認められる
