Neutrophil/Lymphocyte and Platelet/ Lymphocyte Ratios, Mean Platelet Volume as Potential Markers of Disease Activity in Patients With Psoriatic Arthritis: A Case-Control Study

ABSTRACT Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is an inflammatory arthropathy joined with psoriasis and usually negative for rheumatoid factor. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume had emerged as good indicators of systemic inflammation status in a variety of diseases some recent data showed applicable association in rheumatic patients, signifying their use as indicator of disease activity. Objective: To evaluate hematological parameter including neutrophil/ lymphocyte ratio, platelet/ lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume as markers of disease activity in Psoriatic arthritis patient. Patients and Method: This was a case-control study conducted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Rheumatology Unit during the period from January 2021 to the end of November 2021,included 50 patients with psoriatic arthritis and 50 apparently healthy controls. disease activity and the correlations with the neutrophil/ lymphocyte ratio, platelet/ lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume were analyzed. Results: Both neutrophil/ lymphocyte ratio, platelet/ lymphocyte ratio failed to show a significant difference between apparently healthy controls and psoriatic arthritis patients (p>0.05). Additionally, PLR was higher in patients with DAPSA>14 and DAPSA≤14 compared to those in healthy controls but not statistically significant (112.94 ± 61.98 vs. 103.17 ± 34.6, p=0.64), (110.62 ± 44.42vs. 103.17 ± 34.6 P=0.84) respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in mean platelet volume between psoriatic arthritis patients and controls. DAPSA scores positively correlated with PLR (r=0. 296, p= 0.037).
