The historiated votive altar from Lectoure. A miniature votive altar of terra cotta uncovered in the excavations of the lower city of Lectora has recently drawn our attention. From the engravings on the two faces of the die, only suppositions can be drawn : identifications with Mercury and a tree-shaped motif seem likely but, beyond this, the significance of such an artifact lies in its cultural finality. A six-centimeters altar could easily find room among the donaria that cluttered temples and domestic shrines.
