Les Veratii de Narbonnaise

Prosopography shows an Italian settlers' gens widely located in Narbonensis province from the 1st to the Illrd century A. C, the Veratii's one, who played an important part in the integration of provincial economy and society into the Empire. Belonging to the establishment of the towns, having many freedmen, the cousins branches of the gens must have constitute a network of relations able to manage a piece of provincial or, even, interprovincial agricultural products' trade and favouring the promotion of natives and freedmen. .La prosopographie révèle une gens d'immigrés italiens largement implantée en Narbonnaise du Ier au IIIe siècle après J.-C, celle des Veratii, qui joua probablement un rôle non négligeable dans l'intégration à l'Empire de l'économie et de la société provinciales. Appartenant au milieu dirigeant des villes, disposant de nombreux affranchis, les branches cousines de la gens ont pu tisser un réseau de relations capable de contrôler un pan du commerce provincial et même interprovincial des produits alimentaires tout en favorisant la promotion d'indigènes et d'affranchis.Villaret Alain.
