Aux origines des aristocraties provinciales

This paper examines several issues concerning the history of the equestrian order in a province which was considered as quasi-Italia : the integration of narbonensian elite in the second aristocracy in comparison with knights from Baetica, the role in this process of the praefectura fabrum, and, finally, about the two Agricola’s grand-fathers, both of them procurators during the reign of Augustus, the existence of hereditary status and functions for Roman knights.Sont examinés dans cet article plusieurs problèmes relatifs à l’histoire de l’ordre équestre dans une province considérée comme la quasi-Italia : l’entrée dans la seconde aristocratie de notables narbonnais, comparée avec celle des chevaliers bétiques, le rôle dans ce processus de la praefectura fabrum, et enfin, à propos des deux grands-pères d’Agricola, tous deux procurateurs sous Auguste, l’existence d’une hérédité dans le statut et les fonctions des chevaliers romains.Demougin Ségolène.
