Coloni et incolae de Gaule méridionale : une mise en perspective du cas valentinois

International audienceThis paper deals with the coexistence between Gauls and Italian migrants, settled by Rome on land confiscated after the conquest. It is based on the case of Valentia (in the Rhone Valley) and also on evidence from other Roman colonies founded in Gallia Transalpina (later Narbonensis). The focus on incolae leads us to define the legal status of indigenous towns, on the territory or in the neighbourhood of colonies, and then the gradual integration of those populationsL’article porte sur la cohabitation entre Gaulois et migrants italiens, lotis par Rome sur des terres confisquées aux populations vaincues. L’intérêt porté aux incolae conduit à définir les différents statuts juridiques des bourgs indigènes, à l’intérieur ou au voisinage des colonies, puis à l’intégration progressive de ces population
