Electrometallurgical and electrochemical industries have known a great development in Norway for half-a-century. The curve of aluminium production is almost parallel to that of hydroelectric-power production and the plants have diversified their goods, now providing semi-finished and finished products which allow the preservation of employment. The comparatively low price of hydroelectric-power makes up for the high cost of raw-materials which have to be imported. The first industrial companies had been founded with foreign capital.
