Family and kinship on the Comoro Islands. The four Comoro Islands in the Mozambique Channel have a single civilization despite variations between islands. This can be seen in the kinship system and its terminology. Comoro society is organized in a twofold system, whose origins lie in regional history : Islam brought its legal rules into a matrilinear society with matrilocal residence.
