The Meaning and Implications of the Washington Treaty, by Jean Klein On 8th December, 1987, a treaty was signed in Washington between the United States and the Soviet Union to eliminate intermediate and short-range nuclear missiles. It was a historie event in that it was the first time the two protagonists had agreed on genuine disarmament measures and accepted the necessary strict verification controls.
