Sixteenth century connections between Groningen and Drenthe::The families Syrsema and Elevelt

Het gaat in op de vijftiende-eeuwse roots van deze familie Syrsema/Elevelt en makat duidelijk dat de nakomelingen van deze familie meestal een veel lagere sociale status hadden vanaf het einde van de zestiende eeuw.This article is on two related freehold families living in northern Groningen in the sixteenth century with several connections with Drenthe families. Originally being part of the rural sub-elite with quite a lot of landownership and some connections to the urban Groningen magistrate, the members mostly lost their positions from th end of the sixteenth century onwards, with part of the descendants living in the city of Groningen. The article gives an overview of both the family relations and the economic position of each of the family members involved from the early sixteenth century until the end of the seventeenth century
