Declining pasture production, was a topic discussed at a meeting held recently in the Woogenellup Hall. Western Australian Agriculture Department advisers from Albany, Steve Trevenen and John Blake attended the meeting to define the problem and offer solutions to the 50 farmers who attended. Discussions included the farmers concerns of the decline in percentage of clovers in their pastures, with some recollections of the clover dominated swards of the late 1950's and 1960's which followed new land development and the greater use of superphosphate. Mr Trevenen said that to continuously grow the same plant year after year, as has occurred with the widespread use of sub-clover, then you would expect a build-up of disease affecting this plant. ...
