Soil erosion is too big a problem for farmers to tackle on their own, becoming part of the solution, not just part of the problem is an experience shared. In 1967, 16 landowners in the Inverell district of New South Wales formed a farmer-directed, self-help conservation group to promote utilisation with conservation of soil and water resources on a community not individual basis. The following year there were 56 farmers in three affiliated, autonomous groups in three catchments.
