Using the quantitative analysis of court trials regarding confiscated merchandize along the border regionbetween 1826 and 1842, this paper aims to demonstrate how two territories –Guatemala and Chiapas– that belonged to two different federations kept close commercial ties in spite of Chiapas having separated jurisdictionally from the former Captaincy General of Guatemala.
