International audienceIn 2007-2008, the project aimed toward creating a road opening, as part of the tramway development work in Reims, between Place de la République and Square Colbert, revealed more than 8,000 m2 of archaeological remains corresponding to five streets and five housing blocks in a district of the ancient city, between the Porte de Mars and the banks of the Vesle. The structures uncovered are truncated due to the linear nature of the area and the impact of modern developments. Among them, thirty cellars, filled in between the middle of the 1st c. and the end of the 3rd c. and even the beginning of the 4th c. AD, have been preserved.
