An systematic descriptive review was carried out using databases such as PudMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, and the virtual library of the Catholic University of Cuenca, among others, compiling a total of 19 usable documents for the study, which include medical practice guidelines both nationally and from other countries, with the aim of making a comparison and compiling useful information for today's society.Primary arterial hypertension being the main cause, where the causative agent is not specifically known; the influence of genetic predisposition and a sedentary lifestyle, together with poor diet and advanced age are well known among its main triggers.For diagnosis and treatment, it is very important both the quantification of blood pressure and the appearance of our patient, the diagnosis should be confirmed with at least 2 blood pressure readings recorded in different visits to the doctor and from there, The treatment must be balanced with changes in the patient's lifestyle, both in terms of dietary habits and physical activity. In the pharmacological area, it must be clarified that it must be individualised and can be covered by the use of thiazide diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARA-II, calcium antagonists, beta-blockers and their correct combinations.Para la realización del presente, se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de tipo descriptiva, mediante el empleo de bases de datos como PudMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, biblioteca virtual de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca, entre otras; recopilando un total de 19 documentos utilizables para el estudio, que incluyen guías de práctica médica tanto nacionales como de otros países, esto con el objetivo de realizar una comparativa y recopilación de información útil para la sociedad actual.Siendo la hipertensión arterial primaria la principal causa, donde no se conoce específicamente el agente causante; se conoce bien la influencia de la predisposición genética y un hábito de vida sedentario, junto a una mala alimentación y la edad avanzada entre sus principales desencadenantes.Para su diagnóstico y tratamiento, es muy importante tanto la cuantificación de la presión arterial y la apariencia de nuestro paciente, se debe confirma el diagnostico con al menos 2 tomas de presión registradas en diferentes visitasal médico y partiendo de ahí, implementar un tratamiento balanceado con cambios en el estilo de vida de nuestro paciente tanto en los aspectos de hábitos dietéticos y en actividad física, en el espacio farmacológico se debe aclarar que debe ser individualizado y puede cubrirse mediante la utilización de Diuréticos tiazídicos, IECA, ARA-II, Calcio antagonistas, Beta Bloqueadores y sus correctas combinaciones.     &nbsp
