Social and geographical aspects of support for and variability of nationalism in Czechia

Czech nationalism is a phenomenon that formed Czech history and it is still forming the Czech identity and attitudes. Nevertheless, this term significantly disappeared from the Czech public debate, as if it no longer concerned the Czech nation. This bachelor thesis tries to go against the trend, it`s target is to introduce the Czech nation and nationalism, to define the factors that determine the nationalist attitudes, and the analysis of their spatial variability. To achieve the targets the thesis uses a statistical method of binary logistic regression which is used for monitoring the relationship between the proxy variable of nationalism and the independent variables which are the basic structural and attitude variables commonly used in nationalism research. Through these predictors, the two influential hypotheses explaining the support for nationalism are tested. The theory of "losers of globalization" supposes the conditionality in the economic status and the theory of "cultural backlash" based on a nativist ideology. The found statistic associations were further observed in a regional detail using regions defined on the base of two - many times observed spatial patterns, namely phantom`s borders and dichotomy of core-periphery, further according to their combination and also according to the...Český nacionalismus je fenomén, jenž formoval české dějiny a stále formuje českou identitu a postoje. Přesto tento termín do značné míry vymizel z české veřejné debaty, jako by se snad českého národa již netýkal. Tato bakalářská práce se snaží jít proti tomuto trendu, jejím cílem je představení českého národa a nacionalismu, vymezení faktorů, jež nacionalistické postoje podmiňují, a analýza jejich prostorové variability. Práce k dosažení cílů využívá statistickou metodu binární logistické regrese, která slouží k pozorování vztahu mezi proxy proměnnou nacionalismu a nezávisle proměnnými, jimiž jsou základní strukturální a postojové proměnné běžně ve výzkumech nacionalismu využívané. Skrze tyto prediktory jsou testovány dvě vlivné hypotézy vysvětlující podporu pro nacionalismus. Teorie "losers of globalization" předpokládající podmíněnost v ekonomickém postavení a teorie "kulturního odporu" založená na nativistické ideologii. Zjištěné statistické asociace byly dále sledovány v regionálním detailu pomocí regionů vymezených na základě dvou mnohokrát pozorovaných prostorových vzorců, a sice fantomových hranic a dichotomie jádro- periferie, dále dle jejich kombinace a také dle krajů.
