Erosion - some might have to be pushed

Assistance is available from both the State and Federal Governments for soil conservation district projects which made them a preferable approach to soil erosion problems to the use of the compulsion sections of the Soil Conservation Act, according to the chairman of the Soil Conservation Advisory Committee, Elton Butcher. Members of a delegation from the committee visited the Esperance area recently to inspect wind erosion problems. The committee members, Mr Butcher, the Commissioner for Soil Conservation, Dr Graeme Robertson, Ted McCarthy and Bert Henderson. voiced concerns with the recurrent wind erosion problem on the sandy soils of the south coast region of the state. The Esperance sand plain had experienced wind erosion for several years, but the drought had set the stage for what could be a serious problem in 1984.
