Networks of the dorsal horn of the spinal cord process nociceptive information from the periphery. Using electrohysiological recordings, the present work aimed to define the short-term plasticity (STP) of lamina II neurons inhibitory connections. The results obtained indicate 1) that GABAergic connections between the lamina II neurons express STP mechanisms that differ according to the frequency of stimulation of the presynaptic neuron, 2) as well as according to the nature of the postsynaptic neuron, 3) that these plasticities involve the activation of GABAB and/or A1 receptors and 4) that those plasticities are modified under peripheral inflammatory conditions.Target-specific and frequency-specific plasticities could then tune the bal...
