This paper discusses an embedded microprocessors design course offered to computer engineering students. The course is the last in a sequence of hardware and software courses that integrates both of these topics into one common system design philosophy. The students are expected to analyze and evaluate various system design projects from which one is selected and implemented during the course. This course introduces the student to the concepts necessary to design and build a typical 8-bit microcontroller. In the course, the student learns how to use a microprocessor to control and initiate the various tasks within a system that a few years ago would require several SSI and LSI parts
