Minnesota native Dr. Emily Gates (1913-2010) graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1939. In this oral history interview, Dr. Gates recounts working as a public health physician and researcher in Florida. She describes implementing the Emergency Maternity and Infant Care (EMIC) program for the wives and children of military personnel in Florida and her research into their nutritional needs. Dr. Gates also talks about moving to California and her experiences as a pediatrician and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) researcher.
