As ofensas verbais contra mulheres no Sergipe oitocentista : uma abordagem léxico-semântica

Verbal offenses serve as a key to access the understanding of the hierarchical and social structure of a given community, whether in current or past times (SHOEMAKER, 2000). Thus, verbal offenses can be considered a terminological subsystem of the language because it encompasses vocabulary, means, meanings and social groups involved (BURKE, 1995; CARNEIRO, 2006). The little knowledge about verbal offenses, especially in past centuries, was what motivated the interest for the execution of this study. For this purpose, we took as a corpus of research criminal cases of verbal offenses in 19th century Sergipe, which were collected from the collection of the Historical Documentation Sector of the Public Archive of the Judiciary of the State of Sergipe. Our focus was on verbal offenses against women. Our objective was to map the lexicon representative of verbal offenses against women in the 19th century, as well as (re) construct, through cognitive semantics (LAKOFF, 1987; SILVA, 2006), the conceptualizations generated by the offenses through their prototypical constitution and categorical (Rosch, 1976, 1978) that end up conforming Metaphorical Idealized Cognitive Models (LAKOFF, 1987). Our work is part of the Project for the History of Brazilian Portuguese (PHPB) linked to the diachronic semantics agenda. After analyzing the data, we conclude that the offenses against women are constructed through two macro-categories (Rosch, 1978) that affect not only the individual value of the female figure but also her social decorum. Metaphorical MCIs (LAKOFF, 1987; WIERZBICKA, 1992; ALMEIDA, 2018) are based, basically, on metaphors of orientation, personification or ontological and structural.As ofensas verbais funcionam como uma chave de acesso à compreensão da estruturação hierárquica e social de uma dada comunidade, seja em tempos atuais ou pretéritos (SHOEMAKER, 2000). Desse modo, as ofensas verbais podem ser consideradas um subsistema terminológico da língua porque engloba vocabulário, meios, significados e grupos sociais envolvidos (BURKE, 1995; CARNEIRO, 2006). O escasso conhecimento sobre as ofensas verbais, principalmente em séculos passados, foi o que motivou o interesse para a execução desse estudo. Para tanto, tomamos como corpus de pesquisa processos-crime de ofensas verbais no Sergipe oitocentista, que foram recolhidos do acervo do Setor de Documentação Histórica do Arquivo Público do Poder Judiciário do Estado de Sergipe. Nosso foco foram às ofensas verbais proferidas contra mulheres. Nosso objetivo consistiu em mapear o léxico representativo das ofensas verbais proferidas contra mulheres no século XIX bem como (re)construir, por meio da semântica cognitiva (LAKOFF, 1987; SILVA, 2006), as conceptualizações geradas pelas ofensas por meio da sua constituição prototípica e categorial (ROSCH, 1976, 1978) que acabam por conformar Modelos Cognitivos Idealizados metafóricos (LAKOFF, 1987). Nosso trabalho está inserido no Projeto Para a História do Português Brasileiro (PHPB) vinculado à agenda de Semântica diacrônica. Após a análise dos dados, concluímos que as ofensas proferidas contra mulheres são construídas por meio de duas macrocategorizações (ROSCH, 1978) que atingem não só o valor individual da figura feminina como também seu decoro social.
