In this paper it is aimed to conduct a comparative analysis between two important texts by Genette on Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, which will be useful to understand the tense relation between the French writer and the Literary Realism. In order to do so, it will be necessary to show the shift in focus that happens between Proust Palimpsesto, in Figures I (1972), in which there is an attempt to explain the proustian work by a theory of metaphor, and the Narrative Discourse (1995), in which there is a more systematic tone influenced by the Structuralism.
