The urban landscape is a cultural geography approach: perceptions and experiences in the city of Sobral-Ce

The city reveals the presence of a variety of landscapes, perceived and experienced in different ways by its inhabitants. Based on this assumption, the geographic research below aims to analyze different forms of representation of the urban landscape. As an area of space research, we provide analysis focused on the city of Sobral, located in the northwest of the State of Ceará. By passing the facts which lead to formation of its Scenery (eighteenth century until the end of the twentieth century), Sobral is thus initially analyzed by a geo-historical perspective, portraying the unique character of its urban formation within the spatial context of inlander. Later we discuss their status as "imagined city", thought by some social groups that nurture the development of his landscapes to support the (re) creation and transmission of images of the city linked to aspects of tradition and modernity at the same time. Methodologically speaking, the work includes the use of an explicit literature on the main topics discussed, as well as by means of visits and field observations and analysis of application and interviews. With regard to treatment with perceptions investigated, the research is effective by a qualitative basis, following directions for a renewed Cultural Geography, conducted a humanistic perspective. Thus, knowledge of these representations makes the recognition of the urban landscape of the city of Sobral as a symbolic field of the first order, influential in the perceptions and experiences of its inhabitants.A cidade revela a presença de uma infinidade de paisagens, percebidas e vividas de modos distintos por seus habitantes. Partindo desse pressuposto, a pesquisa geográfica que se segue visa analisar diferentes formas de representação da paisagem urbana. Como área espacial de investigação, prestamos análises centradas na Cidade de Sobral, localizada na porção Noroeste do Estado do Ceará. Perpassando pelos fatos que levaram a constituição de sua Paisagem (do Século XVIII até o final do Século XX), Sobral é assim analisada inicialmente por uma perspectiva geo-histórica, que assinala o caráter singular de sua formação urbana dentro do contexto espacial sertanejo. Posteriormente discute-se a sua condição de “cidade imaginada”, pensada por determinados grupos sociais que oportunizaram a revelação de suas paisagens como suporte a (re)criação e a transmissão de imagens da cidade vinculadas aos aspectos da tradição e de modernidade, simultaneamente. Metodologicamente falando, o trabalho compreende a utilização de uma expressa revisão bibliográfica acerca dos principais temas discutidos, bem como a realização de visitas e observações de campo e, aplicação e análise de entrevistas. No que concerne ao tratamento com as percepções averiguadas, a pesquisa efetiva-se por fundamentos qualitativos, seguindo direções de uma renovada Geografia Cultural, conduzida numa perspectiva humanista. Desta forma, o conhecimento dessas representações faz com que se reconheça a Paisagem Urbana da Cidade de Sobral como um campo simbólico de primeira ordem, influente nas percepções e vivências de seus habitantes
