Graduate piano recitals: Solo and Concerto

Includes recorded audio files in WAV and MP3 formats, 190:00 in length.The solo recital included an Adagio in G major, BWV 1005, and the Partita in G major, BWV 829 by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Sonata in A minor, D. 845 by Franz Schubert, Sonata no. 9, Opus 68 by Alexander Scriabin and seven Preludes from Opuses 23 and 32 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The sonatas by Schubert and Scriabin united traditional forms with poetic elements. In the program they were placed between the works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Bach and Rachmaninoff represented the culmination of baroque and romantic traditions and both composers found themselves swept aside by emerging technical and stylistic developments. The program opens with Bach???s meditative Adagio. The Partita that follows consists of a Praeambulum that resembles a concerto movement, an Allenmande of flowing triplet figurations, an Italian style Corrente in smooth rapid motion, a Sarabande of stately reflection, a Tempo di Minuetto that suggests Scarlatti with its hand crossing and delicate cross rhythms, a rustic Passepied and a fugal Gigue.
