Includes recorded audio files in WAV and MP3 formats, 69:40 in length.This Graduate Recital consists of keyboard literature in six distinctly different styles from\ud four historical periods.\ud In the Baroque Era idiomatic instrumental music became a prevalent trend, and later the idioms were transferred from one medium to another. The Italian Concerto is an example of this transfer of idioms. It is written in the style of a Concerto Grosso, but is designed for a two manual harpsichord. Bach included dynamic markings to indicate the alternation of ripieno and concertina groups.\ud The Sonata in A Flat, Opus 26, is in the style of Beethoven's early middle period. No movement of this Sonata is in true binary form. The final movement is in Sonata-Rondo form, a distinct development of the Classical Era.\ud In the twentieth century, Schonberg inaugurated the spirit of the miniature form in the atonal work, Sechs Kleine Klavierstucke. These pieces are extremely brief and concentrated, and each is like a fleeting sketch.\ud The Rondo by Bartok develops out of the character of the melody. There are frequent key changes and a mixture of tonalities near the conclusion. Irregular accents are common.\ud The Two Rhapsodies are of fine quality and demonstrate Brahms' inclination toward classical principals of construction combined with romantic sonorities. The second Rhapsody contains the typically Brahmsian thick low bass chords and cross rhythms.\ud The Scherzo in B Flat Minor provides examples of Chopin's bel-canto style and the romantic contrast between whispers and thunderous passion. The form grows out of the musical ideas. Even in the coda the musical material is still being developed
